  • Update from India

We are waiting for the Jalpaiguri government in Indian to give permission for the proposed development of the Devi Choudhurani Kali Temple in West Bengal. Red tape has managed to delay the project by two years so far.  Hopefully a news story we contributed to in The Statesman in Kolkata might help keep the debate alive as it has the potential to be a great community project.  Read the article here.

Tom Hoblyn visited West Bengal to see his new temple restoration project within 5 acres of grounds. Tom hopes to re-introduce native species and create a botanic garden-like garden that will be used for religious purposes. The garden's theme will be based on the fascinating story of the temple's founder: Debi Chudarhani - a Robin Hood type character who stole from the rich and gave to the poor and lived in the jungle to evade capture.
