CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW 2021
BOODLES SECRET GARDEN

THE CONCEPT

Inspired by Frances Hodgson- Burnett beloved children’s story, this garden is a contemporary interpretation of the journey into the enchanted, life-changing sanctuary of a secret garden.

THE SPONSORS

Established in 1798 and possessing a rich heritage with origins in Liverpool, Boodles is a fine jewellery, family firm with an internal reputation.

DESIGN DETAILS

The Secret Garden is encased by a striking combination of Taxus baccata hedging and an oak Louvre wall created by renowned contemporary furniture maker Jan Hendzel Studio from sustainably sourced oak, sourced within five miles of Chelsea. The contrasting surfaces of the louvre reflect the two areas of the garden and are designed to personify the life-changing journey into The Secret Garden.

The visitor is drawn from the naturalistic planting characterising the outer beds, a palette of muted greens and creams comprising Hydrangea paniculata, Rhus typhina, and Miscanthus sinensis punctuated with spires of Verbena hastata, through a high, intricately carved, louvred oak wall into an enchanted, secret garden brimming with jewel-like plants. This inner, more defined space features more exotic planting delicately accented with Dahlia campanulata and Fuchsia magellanica var. molinae, which introduce beautiful, droplet structures and soft pink tones.
