Hillersdon House was designed by theatre architect Samuel Beazley in 1849 providing a decadent party house for the arctic explorer Billy Grant and remains one of the most important country houses in Devon. The house sits elegantly high up in the valley with panoramic views across to the Blackdown Hills.

Very little had been done to the grounds since its heyday, and so a complete restoration of the house and grounds began.

The series of lakes were dredged and restored to their former glory, along with the pleasure grounds which contain a rare collection of rhododendrons. The large vegetable garden was reworked and revitalised to provide a constant supply of produce for the kitchens that cater for many large events and shooting parties.
