The Chantry, Suffolk

Classical Victorian notable townhouse in the centre of Saxmundham, originally built as a gentleman’s country residence. The new owners have painstakingly restored the house over the past few years, retaining all the original features. Unusually for a townhouse, the gardens are over half an acre in size; much of it walled.

The brief was to create formal and wild gardens, sympathetic with the classical architecture but also nature friendly. A particular request was to use all local materials, plants and trades to complete the project – fortunately, not a problem in East Anglia.
